CNN hosts clash in heated debate over Trump win, transphobia and culture war ads

CNN commentator Shermichael Singleton debated with author Jay Michaelson on the importance of culture war issues in determining the election for President-elect Trump.

The exchange highlighted a heated dispute over what caused the loss of Kamala Harris and ads targeting biological boys in women’s sports.

“I think there are a lot of families out there that don’t believe boys should play girls’ sports,” Singleton said, opening up a debate over the inclusion of transgender athletes in sports.

“They’re not boys,” Michaelson said in response to Singleton’s comment. “I will not hear transphobia at this table.”

“When you use a swear word, I’ll cut it off!” Michaelson added. “They are not boys. They are not playing girls softball. I’m not going to sit there and listen to it.”

“Let’s reset for a second because, look, this is a really heated issue. And Shermichael, I know you, I know you understand that people have different views on this. I think, out of respect for Jay, let’s try to talk about it in a way that’s respectful.”

“I know you don’t intend to be transphobic,” CNN anchor Abby Phillip told Singleton.

Regarding Trump campaign ads that featured Harris from 2020 voicing support for the gender-based care he claims for trans people in prison, Singleton said, “Those ads were so effective… My opinion in terms of its effectiveness, regular people kids look at these things and they say, ‘You know what? That’s a bit far. I don’t agree with that. I don’t like this. I think the Democrats have gone too far to the left on social issues.’ They’re not comfortable with it… You may not agree with that reality, but that’s why the Republicans kept running those ads over and over again.”

“They’re not regular people,” Michaelson replied. “There is no consensus that these are actually boys. This whole thing about trans girls is a weird thing. We’re talking about a tiny, tiny fraction of the population.”

Several political figures and Trump supporters, including former NCAA swimmer and OutKick contributor Riley Gaines, have spoken out against women’s sports, including biological men.

Gaines has repeatedly explained her experience of sharing a locker room with a transgender competitor during her college swimming career.
